Wine Tasting in Pfaffstätten near Vienna

One of the best ways to get away from the typical tourist attractions of Vienna City is the so called “Genussmeile” (literally Indulgence Mile) in the area of Baden bei Wien (Baden near Vienna).

It is always held in September each year and like the name says, you can indulge in wine and food tasting of local farmers and vineyards.

This is the perfect oportunity to go for a long walk through the vineyards. Every mile or so a local farmer opens his stand with a few chairs and tables (sometimes also with live music) and one can buy a glas of a local wine or dish.

@PSheppard This reminds me of Kahlenberg in Vienna, have you been? It has a spectacular view of the city and on the other side you have vineyards. It’s also popular during summer for wine tastings.

Thanks for sharing these photos.

Wow, @PSheppard , wine tasting sounds great, something that I really love.

On November 2018 we had the second edition of the International Wine Meet-up, second edition, and in October @KarenVChin invited me to Wine Tasting Adventure in California.

I want to know more about wine in Austria, @DanniS

@ErmesT I highly recommend visiting Kahlenberg if you’re ever in Vienna. There is a bus that goes right to the top and the way there is also pretty interesting to see the rich and noble district of Vienna.

You can definitely take a day-trip and make your own picnic or check some wineries on your way down through the trail. I don’t know much about wine, but I know Viennese are proud of this place and say ‘You haven’t seen Vienna if you don’t go to Kahlenberg’, so I’m sure you will definitely like this experience.

Thank you @PSheppard for sharing this, it looks really nice, I love wine tasting as well! Btw also the name is fantastic, “Indulgence Mile” … of course, you are tasting wines :-).

@ErmesT nice meet-up posts you shared and perhaps as Italian I do understand to be proud of our own wines, however there are very good ones all around the world. I joined to wine tasting experiences twice outside Italy, in south UK and in NZ on Waiheke Island, really famous for vineyards.

@PSheppard , thanks for recommending wine tasting as another thing to do while around Vienna.

I see you are a Level 3. If you haven’t thought about it yet, you might want to think about applying to Connect Live 2019. All you need to be is Local Guide with a minimum level status of Level 5 or above and be 21 years old by the start of Connect Live. The deadline to apply is April 30th, 11:59 pm UTC.

If you get selected, you will have the chance to come to California. Here we have a lot of wine country to visit. = )

Cheers,

Karen
