I was just in Google Photos on my Windows 10 desktop computer and it asked me if I wanted to try the new version. This is definitely new to me. You know get a
tab with options for Suggestions (enhance, dynamic, warm, etc)
The crop tab has multiple aspect presets to choose from (this may not be new) and auto level. Still no perspective correction @MortenCopenhagen ,but the auto leveling seems to be pretty good.
The adjustment tab now has all the same controls as you get on an Android phone.(HDR, brightness, and 11 other controls.
Screenshots below: I combined two menus in one shot to save adding 3 photos.
The new version looks great @Rednewt74 but other than a revised layout, Iām not sure if anything new has actually been added and I was hoping that the new version would include the magic editor that would allow for the removal of unwanted objects (eg: people from the photo).
@Rednewt74 Iāve found it a little confusing in places. For example, if you edit and save a photo sometimes it Saves as a copy and other times it replaces the original. When it does Save as a copy then when you come to add the edited photo onto Maps, thereās a delay before you can so you can end up uploading the original and not the enhanced/edited version Have you found this Alfred?
Certain editing actions force you to save a copy. Sharpening, unblurring, using the dynamic adjustment, and others require you to save a copy. I assume because those adjustments cannot be reset. This is a place where I put a star on the edited photo, so I can more easily distinguish it from the original. I havenāt noticed the delay issue but I will look into it. Because the desktop version had such limited editing options I havenāt used it much. Iāve never noticed a delay issue on my phone.
Also regarding using the edited versus the original version, if youāre just looking at the photos that come up when you go to add photo thereās no way to distinguish the two images. You have to go into folder and photos to see which one you starred. I talked about this in a post on ātoo many photo choicesā

No the point I was making @Rednewt74 , perhaps badly, the edited copy doesnāt show up for selection @Rednewt74 and I donāt believe thereās an option to name it. By default itās renamed with _edited at the end and thereās not way to rename it before copy is saved. Iāll try it again and take more careful note.
Iāve got it now. I went in and tried to replicate the desktop delay problem. The delay did not happen, I donāt think.
When I went on Maps to add the edited photo, the choices are upload, from phone or Your photos.
I chose photos and it showed me all my albums (I have a lot ) and tried to scroll down past them and gave up, so I donāt know if it was available. I will try again.
Because of my naming convention my Google Maps Photo Album is at the top of the list of albums.
So I went back and edited another photo that required save as copy. I then chose it in the photo gallery and added it to my G. Map Album (which again was at the top of my album list).
I refreshed Maps, went to the same POI , add photo, chose from Photos and them my G. Map Album and it was already there.
I canāt believe that you have to scroll through all your albums to get to your general photo gallery.
Have I looked at what you are talking about? Iāll add more after my other test.
It is the weirdest thing. On the desktop in Maps and add a photo, when I go to the āYour Photosā tab, it only shows my albums. Nothing from my main photo stream. I searched for āJune 2023ā and it only pulled up a few of my June photos and not the one I wanted. So I searched for "Jazz " (the edits were from a recent jazz show) and did find my photos from the event including the new edit.
Not a very friendly experience.
I think Iāll see if the new Photo version is on my Chromebook and see how it works there.
From what you have described it seems that you also donāt always see all the photos that you expect that you should. I canāt waste any more time on this now and besides, I was simply commenting on your post and wanting to add my experience on using the new enhanced Google Photos. Thanks for testing Alfred, Iāll also do more when I have time.
I agree that itās not fluid to find the photo you want to use. Given the poor upload interface and the missing features I donāt plan on doing much editing on the desktop
I see a lot of new adjustments in the new design compared with the old.
Once I noticed that not all photos showed up, but there were empty spaces for them, so to me it looked like a cache or download issue. Restarting my browser fixed the issue.
