Don’t let this ride overwhelm you. I plan to break it into segments that allow you to easily bail out at pre-determined MAX stations. That said… This will be a fun exploration of communites that front the east bank of the Willamette river, including Portland’s inner east side, Brooklyn, Reed College, Westmoreland, Sellwood, Milwaukie, Gladstone, and Oregon City. We will begin by heading along the East Bank Esplanade, then continue on city streets and dedicated bike paths as we head south. There will be some hills but they start out small and get bigger towards the end. The first segment is about 8 miles and ends at the SE Tacoma / Johnson creek MAX station. We will take this at a moderate pace for those who are looking for an easier ride. The second segment adds a little more elevation and ends about 17 miles from our start point at OMSI. The last segment heads into Oregon City for some hill climbing before we come cruising back down to the Willamette river. How we return is up to those of us left. This will be a good way to get to know different parts of the city, learn some of the dedicated bike cooridors, and get a good workout. Since the entire ride takes place within the Metro area, you can easily opt out and catch a bus or train back whenever you’re finished.
