There is a lot of opinions, and market share to answers this question. Photography can be considered an expression of Art. Can be view it, as a business tool, by itself. It can see it, as a Hobby, or just a simple way to capture a special moment to keep, as a great memory.
Photography will reflex your lifestyle. Do you look for the detail. Is your focus on specific element around you. Or you are person always looking for the big picture?
The introduction of Action Cameras, get from the people’s urge or need to keep record in videos and photos of their risky adventures. They were looking for really small equipment, all terrain resistant, and hand free use. Now, they have a lot of options in equipment. Most of them with a POV, point of view perspective.
Drones. In the other hand, open a new perspective in video and photo taking. This extremely interest photo equipment take over the regular business of aerial photo, that use a professional photographer and a mostly a traditional professional camera. But open a new possibility in some other market, like wedding photography, Tv news reporting, surveillance, and media marketing advertising companies.Quality of photos depend on Budget invested in the equipment.
Either way, in the correct hands of good photographer, both of them can be use to take Artistic and Professional Photos.

Every camera has its own purpose, I wouldnt take my smartphone nor my DSLR to rafting or go karts, but in normal situations you can use any and create something beautiful
The language of today is “smart” therefore, to a great extent Drones and Action cameras will continue to serve their own purposes but will not replace traditional cameras.
@ Nosaint2 great post and very relevant to this forum of local guides. My opinion in this regard is that drones have to be used for specific purposes but not to capture those beautiful images and those angles that we can obtain with traditional cameras, even with a cell phone.
