Wild Rat Hunter (Tharu People) in Western Terai, Nepal.
प्रदेश नम्बर ५ अन्तर्गत रुपन्देही जिल्ला तिलोत्तमा नगरपालीकाको वडा नम्बर १६ मा पुरानो थारु गाउ छ जस्को पुरानो नाम गणेशगज थियो पछी कालन्तरमा बिहुली हुन गयो । यो गाउ पहिला थारु समुदायहरु मात्र बसोबास गर्दथे पछी २०२०, २५ साल ताका पहाड़ी समुदाएहरु पहाडबाट बसाइसराइ गरि आउन थाले पछी एस गाउमा थारु, बाहुन, क्षत्री, मगर, अन्य समुदायहरुको गणना धेरै हुन गयो, तर पनि एस गाउका थारु समुदायहरु आफ्नो पुर्खा बाट बिरासतमा सिकेका कला, धर्म, परम्परा, चालचलनहरु लाई एक पुस्ता बाट नयाँ पुस्तामा हस्तान्तरन गर्दै गर्दा जसरि थारु समुदायका पुर्खा हरु ले उस बखतमा खेत वा पर्तिहरुमा पाइने मुसाको शिकार गर्न जुन तरिका अपनायका थिए उक्त शिकारी तरिकालाई अहिले सम्म यो पुस्ताले जोगाइ राखेको छ ।
जब खेत वा पर्तीमा धान वा गहुको बालि पाकेको अवस्था र भित्राइने समयमा यी समुदायका पुरुषहरु समुह बनायर कोदालो सहित मुसाको शिकार गर्न जान्छन । यी शिकारी समुहलाई थाहा हुन्छ की कुन दुलोमा मुसा छन कि छइन भनेर, मुसाको दुलोमा नयाँ माटो हुन्छ भने तेयो दुलोमा मुसा छ भनेर थाहा हुन्छ ।

Here in Nigeria, we enjoy bush meat with palm wine or beer.
I have never gone to hunt bush meat before.
So I want to ask you have you eaten the Wild rat before?

@Khanabadosh1986 Do Tharu people hunt wild rats to eat them or they protect their fields from pests?
You have shared interesting information, your culture is so different of mine. Very illustrative photo. But why so many people for one rat hole? Do they scare the rat?
@Austinelewex You know well that it’s not accepted in my country to eat rats, maybe our rats are too small to eat them. And I absolutely can’t imagine eating squirrels, it sounds like nonsense here. Though of course it’s the power of traditions only. I don’t think the meat of rats or squirrels is worse than chicken meat.
As for me I think I never tried something from wild bush. There are no hunters in my family and we buy meat in the shop.
But I know they hunt birds such as black grouse or partridge, hares, wild boars here. I may mistake, I know little about hunting. Maybe some of mentioned is forbidden to hunt for.

Have you tasted Hare before? If not you should try it.
Bush meat or wild meat taste differently because they feed differently.

Last time I tried it, it was soft and tender, it was after a Hiking meetup at Ezeagu last year.
It was wash down with palm wine.

Rat Hunter Tribal Tharu Young Boy with Hunted Rat on Hand. His Father, uncle & other Family Member Hunting Rat in wheat Field, western terai region, nepal. this rat destroy tharu people wheat, rice field or crops so that hunting tribal tharu people rat save crops & lunch or dinner.

@Khanabadosh1986 Thank you a lot for your explanations. In my country rats and mice are also great problem for farmers and make great damage in fields.
We also kill them, mostly with the help of poison or mousetraps.
