Why you should visit Galle Face Green when in Colombo!

Galle Face Green is a must visit place for everyone when visiting Colombo. It’s the perfect place to go to if you want to get a taste of how the locals spend their time.

The Galle Face Green is basically a strip of open land right next to the sea. The beach is not accessible from there. A walkway has been built there for walking right next to the sea shore. There are a couple of decks there as well. As far as I understand, the Galle Face Green was used by the Dutch for placing cannons facing the sea during their colonial reign.

Locals go there in the early morning for jogging and walking. In the afternoon the place starts to get alive again when people come to unwind, fly kites and relax. The peak time with most people is during sunset when most people come for the delectable street seafood!

I was brave enough to try out a few of the street food and it was worth it. The food was very reasonably priced and tasted awesome. Loved the fried lobster, which was huge and only priced at about 200 sri Lankan rupees.

If you are ever in Colombo, even for a very short stay, make sure to visit the Galle Face Green to see how the locals spend their time and also for trying out awesome local foods at very reasonable prices.
