What I love to share the most are the monuments and landscapes, because they are the places to describe and depict.
Cádiz is one of the most interesting places in Europe owed to its history, culture and turistic sites.
Just ten reasons to visit Cádiz:
- Known as “the silver cup”, is the capital of the province of the same name. The most ancient city in western Europe, it is 3 thousand years old, beautiful, joyful and popular destination. In fact, Cruises companies have chosen it as a touristic visit in Europe.
- It was in Cádiz where the first Constitutional Democracy for Spain was stablished in 1812, with served as inspiration for others hispanic countries. Cádiz people is very proud of it.
- Carnival in Cádiz is one of the best in Europe, and has the status of “Intangible cultural heritage of humanity”. Also the typical andalusian fairs in all cities and villages are funny and beautiful. Easter and bullfights attract a lot of devotion in Cádiz.
- Few kilometres from Cádiz is the international known town of Jerez, because of its wine, horses ante the Grand Prix Moto GP where have succeded the most important GP pilots, Marc Marquez, Valentino Rossi, Jorge Lorenzo, etc.
- It has many picturesque little villages, either in the mountain (known as the white villges, because the color of their houses) or villages on the coast with many festivals where you can appreciate its gastronomy, history and ancient culture.
- It has many kilometres of white sand beaches and transparent waters similar to caribean ones.
- More than a quarter of its territory is considered a Natural Park full of “pinsapos”, cork oaks and autochthonous vegetation.
- Its cultural heritage is huge: roman, artesian, phoenician and muslim ruins. We must remember muslims were in the Iberian Peninsula from 711 with the “battle of Guadalete” in the province of Cádiz.
- Cádiz is the southwest point of Europe, 14 km from Africa, only 1 hour by boat, it is a very important location, even for British as they still nowadays keep Gibraltar as a colony.
- At only 1 hour distance you have Sevilla with its magic Giralda, its cathedral. Within 2 hours distance you have Marbella and Puerto Banús, a yatch port. Córdoba at 2 and a half hours, and Granada at 3 hours distance.
Cádiz is just an incredible and wonderful place to visit, and their people is proud of their special sense of humor with reflects their philosophy and easy way of life. Nothing like a “gaditano” joke for laughing even in the worst moments, combined with fresh fried fish, will keep you cheered up for the day.
