Why share/contribute on Google Maps...?

Hello Fellow Redaer

This is SCM from India. I started using Google Maps on Mobile in 2011 mainly for road trips with friends for going outside city on weekends or on long holidays. We always liked to start our trips in late night or early morning but around that time only a handful of people are on the Roads hence before Google Maps we use to find it quite difficult to reach the correct destination in time.

Then came a blessing, I bought Motorola Backflip having Android 1.5 and Google Maps. Google Maps almost took away the need of asking directions from anyone. Reaching destinations was much more easier and with time, I/we became more and more dependent on Google Mops for Navigation.

This dependency on Google Maps created a new kind of problems (I/we totally stopped asking for directions), sometimes I/we used to land on narrow village roads or reach wrong place having similar name or end up on one way road etc., after all Google Maps was not perfect at that time (it is still not perfect but it is extremely better).

After facing such problems, slowly I started feeling a need to improve Google Maps which can help everyone to reach their destination with ease and thus I started contributing/sharing on Google Maps. It was also a kind of return of favor, after all Google Maps was and is free.

Once I started sharing/contributing, I felt the need not to restrict myself towards only one or few kind of updates but any thing or everything which comes across. Having said that, I particularly like to share the photographs and review of Hotels where I stay.

When we search a hotel on an online portal, the photographs of hotel can be very misleading as such photos are provided by Hotel itself and are generally photo-shopped (I have been victim of this few times). I feel that if we shares the actual reviews & photographs of Hotels, then anyone can judge, how good or bad a hotel is, what to expect and what not to expect from the Hotel. This will make all the travelers happy as they will be saved from any unexpected surprises, they will get better value of their money and will not regret their decision later on. This is important because everyone wants their trips (business or leisure) to be perfect and one bad hotel ruins whole trip. It also gives me a lot of pleasure knowing that I am contributing to my society in my small way and how popular my contributions are (through monthly activity report from Google Maps) .

So let’s keep contributing/sharing and keep improving Google Maps…

Here are photographs of 1 hotel of Bhavnagar, Guajrat, India where the surprise was on positive side. I booked this hotel at very low cost and it came out to be too good for the price paid (less than USD 25).
