Why prefer to use the old version of google maps

Memory quota comparison between the old version and the new version

Now, I’m using my phone, Oppo A3S with ROM 16 GB and RAM 2 GB, feel not too enough for save google maps new version and finally to save memory quota, I went back to the old version although lost the follow feature. One other cases, when I upload photos, in new version some photos don’t appear quickly.

Besides that, in the new version, force close more frequently when uploading photos than older versions.

Now, is this new version any more improvements or the old version is used as an option for phones with small memory?

Hello @Irfan_dPriyanto

Understand your difficulty in using the latest version of Maps while there is not enough memory available on the phone.

Nevertheless, there are inherent risks in running outdated software.

To overcome the problem, have you tried installing/moving the app on an SD card? Or moving some other apps there?

I am aware that involves moving the app manually whenever that receives an update. But then you continue to enjoy the latest features.

Hi @Irfan_dPriyanto same problem create when I updated the new version of Google maps.as I’m also using Oppo

A3S .This happens due to low mobile memory .Now I’m using factory version although it has no many functions like new version. Thanks also to @ @LianaZ

Hello @Mohan_Singh

Now I understand the reason why the screenshots you shared in your previous posts displayed the old version of Maps.

Nevertheless, I also managed the 16 GB memory in my old HTC phone by taking the following steps.

Deleting all the photos as soon as these were backed up.

Similarly, transferring all documents on the phone to Google Drive.

Not storing music files on the phone as that has become redundant through the streaming services.

Removing all the preinstalled apps provided by the manufacturer, wherever possible. (Many citations call these as bloatware!)

Where I couldn’t remove some, I used to disable those after clearing the storage and cached data.

Transfering apps to an SD card wherever possible.

some apps didn’t allow to do so but permitted moving the storage data to the SD card.

Further, I never relied on any third-party apps to manage the storage and did everything through the features provided by the OS only.

Using old versions can lead to bad data in Maps @Irfan_dPriyanto as the services will expect you to be reasonably up to date.

If you are memory challenged, could I suggest Maps Go as an alternative? It is a version of Maps designed for smaller less capable devices https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.mapslite

Hi @PaulPavlinovich Map Go is too worst to factory version .Map Go show only contribution.Map latest version needs large memory. If we delete data once a day it function well.

Check your offline Maps settings. Maybe you have some areas downloading. I suspect it might download your home area by default @Mohan_Singh
