Why I'm a local guide

Hey everyone,

Reintroducing myself - I’m Sam and I’m obsessed with travel and food. Travel has always been a crucial part of my life. I was born overseas and made a trip around the world before I turned a year old. Since then, I’ve been lucky enough to visit all seven continents, experience 40 countries, and see 38/50 states. I love adventure and trying something new.

Part of why I love traveling is to learn about and experience other cultures. What better way to do this than over a meal? Food can tell you so much about someone or someplace - you can tell what they value, how they feel, and what’s unique about the place based on the flavors, the presentation, the details of a meal. Do you sit alone or in groups? Is it plated in an organized fashion or is it #ugly delicious? Do you eat with hands or utensils? Do you share, family style?

I love being a local guide because I love sharing what I know about different places and cultures I’ve been a part of. I particularly pride myself on my local knowledge of San Francisco, where I live, and New York, where I grew up. I want to share my knowledge with others so everyone can eat live like a local, no matter where they are.

For the longest time I felt I have lost purpose in what I wanted to do. Seeing people post travel content inspires me to take a leap and travel around the world, see and experience new things. I’m almost 30 and it is now time I do such a thing.
