Hey everyone,
my name is Florian and I’m a local guide.
- “Hello Florian”
Well ok, it’s not that bad already, no self help group needed, but I love telling stories and discovering new places. I’ve experienced over the years, that most hole in the wall places are awesome gems that little people know about. I want to change that, I want to show the beauty of those places to the world, that’s why I like sharing restaurant reviews of small places that are often overlooked.
One example of this is a small greek restaurant in Bremen which, was one of the kickstarters of my interest in local guides. The restaurant was freshly opened and didn’t have many guests at the time. That’s not because of anything the owners did, but because of the history of the restaurants before it. The place they opened in saw a multitude of short lived restaurants that were of mediocre quality and often closed for good a few months after opening.
One evening I intended to go to a nearby steakhouse with my flatmate, luckily for us the steakhouse was closed and we came by said greek restaurant on our way back home. Initially hesitant to enter, I convinced her to give it a try anyhow and we went in to discover one of the most hospitable hosts ever who had just opened their little restaurant and served the most delicious greek food we’ve ever had. Three years, a few awards from local press and lots of word-of-mouth recommendations later, it’s hard to get a table even for us regulars. Maybe writing one of the first reviews on Google Maps and facebook helped them out a little bit. In any case, reviews can be a powerful tool to push small businesses into the spotlight.
