Why I started contributing to Google Maps

While exploring the Google Maps, I accidentally clicked on “Contribution” and started exploring it. Added some information and got some points. Was not aware of the relevance for the point system at all. Slowly and steadily i started adding photos, reviews, answers etc. to google maps and attracted for point system and perks provided by google.

The main force behind adding information to Google maps was to

  • Help me and others with photos about the place - so that they know how it looks like

  • Specific Reviews - I try to provide reviews very specif and not generic. Like in India, we have hidden talents/experts in small shops or road side tapris which provide fast, cheap and quality services. I try to cover such specific information in my reviews. Same i try for the big establish shop/outlets (how they behave for you, best time to visit and their specialty) .

  • Correcting information - Feel good to help others with correct timings and other details.

The analytics from Google maps team about my contribution further motivated me to keep on contributing. When i came to know the number of people saw my photos, read reviews etc…really pushed me to do more and more to Google Maps.

Last but not the least, I like to travel but get very less opportunities hence i make sure when ever i go or get a chance to visit the place i capture the pics and provide my experience of the place to the world so that we can help each other (Google Maps). Lately people in India are also look for the review before finalizing anything hence i take this opportunity to feel proud about helping them to make the correct decision.

Hi, pushkar.

Reading your post gives me this sensation of connection, of being a part of something bigger, aimed to connect people through information in a world-wide scale.

My story with Maps contributions has much of yours and it’s great to see that, in the end, we maybe very far apart but we are all the same.

Hope you keep your motivation in sharing reviews.

See you.

Rafael.
