For me, every place is for a special occasion. It can be as simple as TGIF with colleagues or big life milestones such as wedding anniversary. I love to find those places and recommend to people when then need it. Therefore, when I started to become a Local Guide, I build a habit of creating lists (part of it is shown below). There are different types of list I am actively working on:
-
Ambience-focused list e.g. Rooftop bar in SG, Eat in the woods My inner desire for a “just right” ambience motivates me to find all kinds of restaurants with a unique and comfortable surroundings. This also helps a lot of my friends when they look for a place for first date or birthday celebration etc.
-
Travel itinerary list e.g. Taiwan night market, Kyoto itinerary These lists come really handy when my friends ask me where to go and what to do when they travel. I can just share the list with them and they can plan their route accordingly.
-
Special needs list e.g. Veg restaurants in SG, below $13 lunch, hala food at CBD Due to the kind of people I meet, they may have special requirement and it’s easier if I have this list on hand so that we all never run out of options
-
Mood-based list e.g. Pamper myself, Heartwarming This is more personal and I am still exploring this type of list. I am moody sometimes and want to just go to a place that fits my mood.
Besides, I also have a habit of labelling the place with the date so that I remember when I visited this place with whom for a special occasion.
