Why I Love Siquijor Island, Philippines and Posting Pictures of it in Google Map.

Hello ! Im Gwyn Tumulak Balolong, an Electronics Engineer by profession and a native of Siquijor Island, Philippines.

I have been posting pictures taken in Siquijor Island way then from Panoramia and now in Google Local Guide due to some reasons.

In the blink of my eyes and mind, the safest place i knew was Siquijor since our younger age. The only place where we can just freely roam around . The main reason why we love to go home in our grandparents ancestral house during summer vacation and Christmas season , despite of being so difficult to reach.

We have to ride the public motorized boat locally known as Pumpboat from Dumaguete City , wait for the public vehicles to pass once in the island and walk for about 2 kilometers to reach our grandparents place.

But wait , despite of being so difficult , Siquijor is a paradise. Clean natural beaches , clear sea water and beautiful scenic spots are free. And the place where we know a lot, the local traditions in becoming self sustaining is what we learned so much.

Life in the Island was really hard during that times. Tilling the land and fishing are the main sources of income for locals. Less job opportunities and potable water is not easy to access everywhere.

Sad to say, that when we will be going to other places , most people have misconceptions about the Island as being the island with may witches.

And so, i was able to think , that there should be someone who can stand together with the other locals that we live in a safe and paradise island. And those misconceptions are not true.

With all the facts above, our only way on how we can probably help back in return to the people in the Island, is through our knowledge.

And Google Map platform ( from Panoramia to Local Guide ) is a very very big help in informing other people in the whole world that Siquijor Island is in fact a paradise and those misconceptions are not true.
