Why I love sharing on Google map

Hello everyone, my name is Olufemi Okunlola, Local Guide from Lagos, Nigeria.

I started off as a Google Local Guide because I wanted to help improve the User Experience on the app, by adding missing places and editing posts, as well as giving detailed reviews of places and restaurants to help others make good choices. I also love to show to the rest of the world that we have beautiful places out here in Nigeria. It’s been fun all through for me and I do it effortlessly; I mean being able to capture moments and share in real-time which could help someone make a good decision about places or eating in a particular restaurants is very fulfilling for me.

My contribution as a Local Guide just evolved into sharing locations with accessibility for disabled people, because they are lots of barriers to accessing services by people with Disabilities in Nigeria. I remembered an encounter of someone with disability who went to a bank for a transaction but couldn’t get access into the banking hall due to no wheelchair accessibility. The person had to be attended to outside by one of the security personnel, which means divulging his personal and other account information in order to get this service which requires him being physically present at the bank.

Ever since, I have made it a point of duty for myself as well urge others to look out and share places be it Road sidewalk, pedestrian crossing and all other special facilities made for public use that are accessible to and useable by persons with disabilities including those on wheelchairs and the visually impaired. Little efforts counts in making the world a better place.

Cheers!
