Why I love being a Local Guide

We are a retired couple who have a beautiful ‘off the grid’ retreat on Pearse Island, BC, Canada but we also extensively travel North America with our best friend Kyle (three legged Labrador Collie Cross). We love to explore, take pictures and babble to our friends and family who do not have the freedom to travel like us. We travel in a truck and trailer, Gypsy style, rarely with a timetable. We have fallen in love with using Google to search out what our next destination should be. We will stay in a location for as long as there are experiences we wish to take in. Many times it is as simple as finding; “off leash dog parks” for our beloved Kyle or tiny museums in little towns that are slowly dying. We don’t do Interstate Highways! We travelled for over 5 months last year, from the Pacific in Canada to the Atlantic in New York and back across central America to California before coming home to Vancouver Island. This coming winter we are off to the World Juniors Hockey in Prague. This will be our third trip to the juniors in Europe. I started out using Facebook back in 2006 when we spent 6 weeks in Thailand and Cambodia, but then switched to Blogspot for a couple of years and now we are back to Facebook and Google Local Guides. We like helping others, like us, to be able to access real, pertinent information and critique about a location. Sadly, there are many ‘fake’ reviews and I don’t know what Google can do about that. I have taken up photography since I retired and that has challenged myself and my wife to pay closer attention to detail when we travel. That in itself has opened up a new world of adventure. I love sitting down in the evening, with my laptop, editing my photos and then discussing with my wife what I should post and say on Google Local Guides. It makes us laugh, remember and share with our family and friends.https://youtu.be/xFFMn-hO5u8
