Technology is wonderful! Combined with the right tools in the hands of the right people, it has the ability to make a huge impact on the lives of our fellow citizens.
I am a resident of Aurangabad, a very famous Tourist destination in India. People from all over the World visit my city to experience a rich cultural heritage and visit the famous World Heritage sites of Ajanta, Ellora and the Bibi-ka-Maqbara (the Taj Mahal replica of the Deccan). But Aurangabad has a hidden trove of other places of interest, businesses and locals that are not shown on any map or printed tourist guide. So, while one may have visited my city and seen the usual places, one might have lost out on the real local flavour that must be experienced by the true traveller.
With the advent of Google Maps and the Google Local Guide program, the gap between a person who needs to find the right place and one that comes with the right reviews has lessened.
A Local Google Guide like me can now share my experience, pictures and reviews about places of interest with anyone who may be interested in a specific detail about my city and helps one to make an informed decision to save time, money and efforts.
At the same time, I can also get new and worthy businesses on the Map to help increase their chances of getting popular and making the local market and community a better place for everyone to stay, visit and go back with pleasurable memories and the yearning to visit again.
