I usually hike around Budapest and in the regeion of the town I was born in: Eger. And every year I spend some time in the Austrian Alps as well.
I have two kids, 9 & 11 yeas old, and they are really tough kids, we can do 15 kms in the mountins easily with them. Sometimes during our hikes we discover places like small huts, buffets far from the civilization - and that is what we find so romantic.
For example one time we were hiking in the Styrian Alps, in a valley of a small brook, the Koppental. The route started from Bad Ausse, and after 3-4 hours we got to Obertraun. In the middle of the trail, in the middle of nowhere, suddenly it started raining. First it was not a heavy rain, but when we found a little hut, we decided to go in, and hope the rail will stop. This little but very authentic small hut, Schutzhütte Koppental. serves simple, but home made food and desserts. They use candle lights, that’s why the second pic is so dark ?
By the time we finished our food, the rain just stopped, so we could continue our trail to Obertraun.
This small hut was not even on Google Maps, so I added the place, and the first photo as well. This is a very local place, not crowded, you can enjoy authentic Austrian hikers life when visiting. And this is why I love to contribute to Maps while hiking: I would love to help others to discover and experience theese hidden places that I have discovered.
Great article @csomos . I must say your kids are tough, hiking 15 kms that too on a Mountain, is big deal. Do you follow specific rules to cover such distance?
I go for hiking a lot these days with my family but we primarily choose Nature Trails. I believe its whole lot of fun plus, a wonderul workout.
