Although my kids all think I am nuts I really enjoy sharing the places I go to and in some cases the people I meet with others. I am passionate about checking every little business to see if it is already on the map and does it have reviews or photographs. I am glad to help the owners get their start in communicating thru Google Maps. It is easy!
I great example for me is Route 66 Motorheads Bar and Grill just off I55 in Springfield Il. I watched the owner work tirelessly on building and paining and I added him to the map, added lots of images and a review talking about when he would first open. When he opened we added the announcement to maps and he nearly ran out of everything! The response has been overwhelming. I know he did not advertise much locally so this is all word of mouth and Google Maps!
Anytime you visit somewhere try and render and honest opinion and why you felt that way. Not everyone will agree with you but they will be responsive. The most responses I have gotten have been from photos and videos. Images tell the story about places more than anyone can every say. They provide and impression that you can not put into words for the viewer because you do not know what they are looking for. You like crowds, they like it quiet, you like it brightly lit and they might like it dark and intimate. A photo does that better than anything you can say.
Words bring people to the site and photos help to give an impression you might not be able to bring across.
Remember wherever you go, there is something close by needing to get onto the map.
