Why I Enjoy Contributing to Local Guides

As a person who lives in San Juan, Puerto Rico there are a lot of local restaurants and shops opening all the time, since it’s the capital of Puerto Rico. From Viejo San Juan to Rio Piedras there’s a big variety of places you can visit to try new food. These places are always experimenting with different dishes so there’s a wide variety of experiences that one can enjoy in this area.

I’m a vegetarian and a barista, so I’m always excited to go to different coffee shops to taste the quality of their coffee and restaurants that provide great choices for vegetarians, and obviously a nice presentable plate that I can take a picture of and post on my social media. Whenever I go to a local restaurant I try to give them support and make them stand out, because I know how it is to work in a small local restaurant. It’s a different experience and environment that chain restaurants can’t provide. These restaurants will always have unique plates that make them stand out and give people a reason to come back. I’m a big supporter of local businesses so I take advantage of Google Maps to give as much information as possible, so the people that are searching can find it easily and have a good idea of the place.

I enjoy posting on Google Maps since it’s pretty accessible and easy to post reviews and pictures. It’s one of the key pages that tourists and locals use to check out new places to visit. Whenever a place has lots of pictures they give a sense of security of the place you want to visit, and of course the good reviews. It’s not so motivating to visit when searching for a place that doesn’t have a lot of reviews, information, nor pictures because you don’t know what you’re getting into. That’s why I also contribute; because I want people to feel comfortable of visiting places that are worth checking out. I always give an honest review.

It’s very simple the reason I’m involved in this; I want to make searching easier for people, so small places can stand out.

Very interesting reason for putting up reviews and photos: make people feel safe about a place. Never though of that.
