Why I dont stand a chance to go to Connect Live 2020, but you may next year..!!

What Local Guides means to me is helping others, so here goes.

I have been getting invited to #LocalGuidesConnect ConnectLive for the last 3 years, ever since I passed Level 5, which was easy to achieve and a lot of you have already done that, so you know. I started contributing to Google maps because it has helped me make a judgement on so many things and I wanted to pay it forward. I have actively contributed to Google maps ever since and it has got me to Level 8.

But even so I dont think I would get selected to be an attendee of ConnectLive 2020. SImply because there are so many of us. Even when being a top 1% at my area, I know that’s not much. In the world there are like a ton of us and only 200 spots. That is one thing.

Next is the fact that I am only active on Google maps. Even if they manage to ignore all the level 9s and Level 10s of the world, I am simply a tier below the other Level 8s who basically live in the local guides connect forum.

Third and final issue is that I am an Indian national and will be required to go through a whole process of securing a visa to visit the US. Which makes my chance of being selected even slimmer.

So, My advice to the growing local guide who aspire to visit Google Bay area campus and attend connectlive in the future is,

  1. Be ultra active on maps, chuck down achievements over achievements and earn points by contributing as much as you can.

  2. Be the angel that lives in Local guides connect forum. Post regularly and comment on others posts. Be there more than the mods in the forum.

  3. Just like when you apply at Google or any other company in the US, Visa is a hassle. So, it would massively help if you were already with a US VISA or were from a country where getting US visa was easier from. It would help your chances massively.

You do all these expecting nothing in return, you wont be disappointed. After all, the referees decision is final, in football and in life.

The current season for application to Google’s Connect Live 2020 is open. Go apply and see if you can win the lottery.
