When I was awarded a gift from Google for my contributions to Google Maps and Local Guides Connect, I was asked to choose one item from a list of many gifts. The list included a bag, water bottle, coffee mug, sunglasses, and a cap. I chose the cap, and here is why.
I am Nasim M. Joy, a solo traveler. I love to visit different parts of my country, explore new things, and find hidden gems. Any gift from Google is special to me, but I especially love this cap because it motivates me to continue making contributions.
I will wear this cap whenever I visit a new place and take photos. In this way, I can share my love of travel with others and inspire them to explore their own country.
I’ve made the same choice, but my main motivation is to increase awareness of the importance of having an active cloud system.
Over the past few years, I’ve set up cloud plans for almost all of my friends for their data. Many of them were aware of what a cloud is, but they weren’t aware of its true benefits.
At first they were only thinking about data security, but then they realized the joy and the benefit of having immediate data accessibility from various platforms, making sharing even easier, enabling collaboration, and much more.
Congratulations on being offered some recognition of the work you have done as a Google Local Guide.
However, I have a pin badge which if had been offered the choice I would still have chosen.
if the cap had “Google Local Guide” on it, it would be a better indication that Google actually cares about individual Google Local Guides. This cap suggests that Google simply sees another unrelated advertising opportunity .

list of items you were offered and whether they were anything that related to your efforts as a Local Guide.

I am happy to see that you also chose a cap. I know just a little bit about Google Cloud, but I think we can store our data here. I don’t know more about this service, but I hope to learn more about it soon.
You’re absolutely right. If the cap had a Google Local Guides logo on it, it would be perfect. It would represent our work better, since other Google products have the YouTube and Google names on them, which aren’t really related to this platform. @nigelfreeney

Can you please tell how google choose local guides for distributing gifts? I am currently a level 8 and almost close to becoming a level 9 guide but never received anything from google. I guess they look for activities in connect as well?
