Simply put, it helped me find my way in a new life.
In 2016 I moved from the Southeast of the United Kingdom to Barcelona, following a new job opportunity and the need to really shake things up in my life. Things had become stale; I was shifting between the same old sort of jobs, in the same old towns.
I didn’t even consider in the chaotic weeks prior to moving that I didn’t know anyone, didn’t speak Spanish, hadn’t lived outside of the U.K. at any point…
It became very apparent, and caught up with me all too soon, when my feet touched the ground on Spanish soil, and I now had to find my way in an alien culture and surrounding.
I’d never really had a need for digital maps before this point, lest did I know that Google had integrated reviews, events, and all, straight into the product on my phone. I found a wonderful environment where people in similar situations had provided articles, reviews, and recommendations for things to see, do, and eat, and that culture and environment became so much less alien. Four years on, and I’m still here, calling it home, and always looking out for a good GinTonic bar I might’ve missed…
The content helped me explore more, find more, and certainly eat and drink more, of this great city. So I wanted to give back; I too joined in with leaving reviews, photos, recommendations, and all I could to help the weary traveler or the new arrival.
That’s my story, my reason, for being here. Tell me yours…
