People contribute to Google Maps for different reasons. For me I want to improve map of my city to help travelers and local alike navigate around, get accurate information and thus find what they like and need. I believe my contribution also help local business get found and promote their business through Maps. I myself use the map a lot both personally and professionally so I also benefit from free service of Google and contributions from other Local Guides. I also appreciate Google’s effort to help local business owner with free features like post, follow, messaging… On the other side of my contribution, I am on mission to fight spamming on maps of my city and I especially look out for hijacked public landmarks and tourist attractions.
Moreover, I also want to expand awareness of Local Guides Program in my community by moderating Cambodia Local Guides community on Facebook and interact with other LG in my community to share information, update and flight spam together. I feel proud to be part of this global project knowing that my contribution makes positive impact. As the Google’s Machine Learning get smarter, my contribution is more important than ever in helping people get what they like and want as Maps is able to suggest the right places for the right people.
