Why Google Maps gave me purpose

For as long as I can remember, I have been interested in tracing the trails I’ve roamed all over the world, so that one day I can look back and see all the experiences I’ve lived.

During my first ever Euro-trip with friends, I had been so consumed by taking pictures of every meal, every countryside, every concert and every room, so much so, that my friends almost left me halfway through the voyage. No one understood the appeal, it was “better to live in the moment rather than capture it”.

However, one day, long after I decided to take my friends’ advise, I received a push notification asking me to contribute to Google Maps. And luckily for me, I did.

Suddenly, in my mind, I wasn’t just traveling the world looking for new experiences for (in my friend’s opinion) no reason. On the contrary, I now had a goal to record all my discoveries, to help all those who wander just as much as I do find more than what they’re searching for.

Google Maps also helps me track my digital footprint all over the world, and helps me better understand myself: What type of cuisine I tend to eat, the routine I tend to settle for, and the extra-mile I will take to achieve my goal.

Writing reviews and answering questions takes me one step closer to creating a better tomorrow for everyone, and I am grateful to get the chance to have my opinion and my voice heard.
