Why don’t I have the ability to answer questions in Google Maps anymore?

Hey!

For several years now, I haven’t been able to answer questions in the Maps app anymore. I noticed awhile ago that my 1000+ answers were deleted and I couldn’t figure out why until recently. Unfortunately, at some point, I turned on auto delete. (Problem solved for that anyways.) But now my problem is that I can’t seem to find the “Know This Place” button or even see the tile-like prompts that used to pop up for practically every place I visited. Am I doing something wrong by chance? I’ve researched it a bit on the internet and I’ve come up dry, so I thought I’d ask here. :slightly_smiling_face:

I used this link (https://support.google.com/local-guides/answer/7082158?hl=en&authuser=4#zippy=%2Cbe-prompted-for-places-youve-visited) as my main resource.

I use iOS and Windows if that helps at all. :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi @ZachAlam

Yes, Check the facts has undergone major changes. Please see the details here:

https://www.localguidesconnect.com/t5/Announcements/An-update-on-Check-the-facts-and-Discover-missing-info/ba-p/2965793

It is no longer possible to check tons and tons of facts. But it is still possible to answer questions about the places you have visited.

Cheers

Hey @MortenCopenhagen

You mentioned I can still answer questions about the places I’ve visited; do you know how I can do that? The Google Support page (included in the original link I provided) doesn’t help me provide answers.

I mainly use, Android, so I’m not the one who can help you with IOS and Windows. It might not be possible.

Hopefully, someone else can help you, @ZachAlam .

Morten

@MortenCopenhagen I use both iOS and Android, so I can help check. When you said ‘answer questions that you have visited’ can you confirm which part you meant? (where do you see it in Android?) I just want to make sure we’re referencing the same thing.

Perfect @iyudhi .

I believe @ZachAlam was asking about both Check the facts and answer questions (from Google and not the questions from Maps users).

On https://support.google.com/maps/answer/7384591?hl=eit is clearly stated that answer questions is not available on Desktop.

Maybe you can guide @ZachAlam on how to find the questions on IOS.

Cheers and thanks

Morten

@iyudhi I checked it on my friend’s phone (he uses Android); when you click on a place you’ve visited a grey box appears at the bottom of the screen that says Know This Place?

I was familiar with this on iOS a ways ago, but I haven’t seen it in awhile.

@MortenCopenhagen That’s partially correct, I wasn’t asking about verify the facts, just answer questions. :slightly_smiling_face:

Thank you for your help tho! I appreciate it!

Follow these steps to continue contributing on Maps.

Step 1: Open Maps app and press " contribute (+)" button.

Step 2: After the page opens, swipe to the bottom of the page and press on " contribute now" button

Step 3: A new page wii open and then you can answer the questions. Please remember to keep your location history ON si that you can get suggestions automatically of the places you visit.

@ZachAlam Ah yes I know exactly what you’re talking about. I just checked a particular location on both platforms and I can confirm I see the option on Android app, but I don’t see it on the iOS app.

I’ll keep an eye for it, but it doesn’t look the option is currently available on iOS. The teams that are working on the iOS app is not the same as the team that’s working on Android app (if I’m not mistaken), so it’s not unusual to see minor differences between the two apps from time to time.
