From sharing road trips to exploring places through photography, Local Guides are passionate about helping others. I had the chance to speak with many of them during Connect Live 2018 and learn more about why they love to contribute on Google Maps.

Here are what a few of them told me during #localguidesconnect:

Every local Guide has different reason of being a local Guide.

Out of which the most common is to help the society through thier Contribution.

Was such a pleasure meeting, getting to know, and sharing amazing ideas with all of those smiling faces - that very reason is why I love being a Local Guide. It’s great connecting with others such as the Guides featured here about what we’re passionate about - helping people around the world through our contributions.

I love to inspire people to travel as it’s one of the most incredible feelings in the world. I hope to do so with my reviews. Also, I love to share information. What better way to do it than by sharing reviews?!

Hi @Kiera Thank you for this great post. I love doing reviews on local area places and on tourist attraction place so I can help visitors to my country but I think my favourite thing is helping people in a personal way, I live near the 2 largest hospitals in my country and regularly get asked questions, for example a person asked me how much does parking cost as the person had to visit all day everyday their sick Mother, the parking can cost 20 euro a day so I tell them where to get free parking close by I also get questions about best places to stay near the hospitals, cheap places to eat, visiting hours and many more questions. As both my parents passed away in one hospital and my son was a long time I’ll in the other hospital, it makes me feel good that by being a Local Guide, that I can help other people at what can be a very difficult time in their lives

I love being local guide and I proud to be a part of local guide community.

I share on Google Maps and I share my experience to Connect Local guide community. It means I like to help always that is the reason I am here.

I love being local guide because this is the way that I can help millions . I try to control the map for accuracy, share my knowledge as reviews and photos and this will help people to better organize their tasks through the maps.

Also being in this community Local Guides Connect and have such good friends from allover the world is really valuable for me.

我喜歡加入在地嚮導的理由是,我居住的城市是台灣台南市,從西元1600年開始它就是一個古都,就像日本的京都,加上曾被日本統治了50年的文化薰陶之下,台南市有太多的文化歷史可以介紹,而且台南市的小吃文化也是有其他地方不能及的特別,我希望慢慢地一一介紹！謝謝

I remember i faced a major challenge of a misinformation on maps after i traced a location using maps. Only to find out the place was not in existence . Out of passion to ensure that others do not go through such futile search, i explored the maps meticulously to find a way to report this error and that was how i became a local guide and ever since then, one of the things i do regularly is not just to add places but to ensure precision of location of places on maps.
