I consider myself to be good with directions naturally, but whenever I’m confused I have always used maps. It gives me freedom to travel on my own. The birth of google maps has made it even more interesting for me. I can say that I will never get lost in this world, provided google maps works there. Plus, I am a natural map user - one of my favorite things to do when I’m free is to open up maps in satellite mode and travel from one place to the other for hours.
Sharing on google maps for me started as casually and intuitively as possible. One day google maps started to ask me to post photos and add reviews to the places that I’ve visited. I always think a lot, even about small things people and institutions say to me, and it made me think critically about how I could help other travelers like me if I added photos and reviews on google maps. It also made me think about what do I look for in the places that I travel to, and I try to provide that information in my reviews or photos so that it would help others.
Trying to make it concise and to the point, here are the reasons to share on google maps that I can think of right now :
- It helps people make their travel, even locally, more independent.
- It helps people make informed decisions about their travel plans.
- It helps people identify places about their own interests, and a possibility of hanging out and having social interactions with like minded people.
- It helps people find events that match with their interest.
- It helps people ‘get a feel’ of what they’re getting into before their journey begins.
