I’m a newbie to local guides. I recently posted a critical review after a bad experience with a local handyman (JLM Handyman Services in Germantown, MD). He wrote an owner’s response gaslighting me saying “We are unable to locate any customer in our database that matches your name used for the review. [Perhaps you were mistaken in who provided services].” I went to edit the review by adding a photo of the estimate from JLM with my name clearly visit, and after hitting submit, and the entire review disappeared. Help! What is going on?

Easy, @paulinak678
You are not allowed to upload such images to Google Maps. Individuals names should never be published for privacy reasons.
The companies notion that they should be able to match users with their customers database is not correct. Local Guides (and all Maps users) can use an alias on Google Maps not revealing their identity.
Disputes should be settled outside Google Maps.

Thanks for your response. It looked like the review is gone, but I do see it in “my reviews”, just not public. I went ahead and removed the image of the invoice, and I think review is now publicly visible.
