About three years ago, when I started posting photos and reviews on Google Maps, many of my friends and family would ask me, ‘Why on Earth bother to upload pictures or waste time typing reviews for Google?’
At first, I didn’t have a very specific answer, because there was no pressing reason. ‘Why not?’ I replied. ‘I use Google Maps to find my way around and I read other people’s reviews and look at their pictures, so why not add my own?’
Their insistent question, every time I stopped to share a picture or opinion made me realise the real reason: sharing. I just wanted to share positive vibrations with the world via Internet. I wanted to show others places and things I enjoyed, in case they’d enjoy them too.
The problem is I have so many favourite places, how do I choose one? If I had to narrow it down to a few things, I’d say my favourite places are beaches, woodland, natural spaces, museums, historic monuments, hotels and local restaurants.
If I had to narrow it down even more, I’d say I’m a fan of the Romans, especially Roman Bridges. It just blows my mind that they were so ingenious and adventurous, conquering the world and leaving sturdy monuments which are still in use today! The first one, above, is in Córdoba, where I live. Although the pavement has been refurbished and modernised, the original Roman arches are still in place.
The second one is a little bridge in a tiny village in the north of Spain, over a little river.
The final picture is of A Roman Bridge just outside the walled city of Ávila, which is still standing in its original layout and is used daily by people going into the Old Town within the ancient city walls.
I hope to keep travelling and visiting new places to share with other travellers in the coming months and years on Google Maps as a Local Guide.
My aim is to keep finding and share with you, Roman Bridges, beaches, great hotels, restaurants, museums and historic monuments on my way to reach level 10!
