Why are you proud to be a Local Guide?

Hi, my name is Emmanuel Casado and I’m from the Dominican Republic.

Last year I got the opportunity to visit Spain, I’ve never traveled before.

There was waiting for me a new country with a more complex metro system (in my country with a metro with only two lines), taking buses in an advanced country was a little intimidating for me.

But thanks to technology, specifically Google Maps with offline maps, using GPS even without a connection of internet, the routes of the metro and buses in my hands was a total game changer.

But I use maps not only for transport but thanks to thousands of comments in Maps in locals of food, museums and entertainment places, I made a list of places to visit while in there. Then, when I was idle, I look at my position and see which places I had pending to visit and were interesting to see.

In the same way Google Maps and technology has helped me, I know it helps other people. That’s why I became a Local Guide a few years ago.

Knowing in advance the best route to arrive at a place, when a business is closing, having all telephones numbers of every business (without data) is neat. But that information sometimes is incorrect and is needed to be changed, improved or corrected, and that’s why I’m proud to be part of the community that takes care of this task, making this tool better every day, for the sake of all users.

I’m humble of the aptitude of Google that let’s common people work with them in this kind of social network. I know with the years to come, this will be even better of what it is today.

Cheers,

Emmanuel
