In my opinion, one of the most interesting and fun things to do in google maps is to add new places to maps while you’re traveling and exploring the places around you. As a level 8 local guide in Colombo, Sri Lanka, I’ve added more than 100 new places into google maps during the last two years, which range from fitness centers to salons to grocery stores to my favorite places to add: restaurants! I love adding these new places because it not only helps the business owners attract more customers to their businesses but it also helps regular people in the community to discover places that they might’ve never found out about if not for google maps. The following are some of the places I’ve managed to add to google maps:
SNTD Fitness Center This is one of my favorite additions to google maps. This is a fitness center that is located near my home. It had been operating for several years but it had not been listed in google maps until I added it. I love this addition mainly because the owner of the gym told me that they got a lot of new customers to come and try out the various workouts that they offer after I added the gym onto google maps. This really makes me happy since I not only added a new place to maps but I also contributed towards getting many people to go to the fitness center and live a healthier life.
Atlantic Night Club I added this while myself and some of my friends went out one fine evening and decided to go for a dance session. The place was buzzing with music and the energy of the place was so amazing. I was amazed that such an incredible place like this was not yet listed on google maps so one of the very first things I did after the night out was adding this amazing place on to google maps. I had so much fun that night and made some new friends along the way too. I’m so thrilled that many others can now find this place with the help of google maps and enjoy a great night out in Colombo thanks to this listing. Currently, this place has more than 250,000 views on google maps!
Sen-Saal WTC This is also another favorite addition of mine. This is a restaurant that is specialized in Sri Lankan food and is located inside the World Trade Center (WTC) in Colombo. Since there are a lot of locals as well as foreigners who come to the WTC for business purposes, this addition is very useful because they can easily find a place on google maps to grab a quick bite or a cup of coffee on their way to work. The restaurant manager also became quite good friends with me after getting to know that I was the person to add the restaurant onto google maps. It made me feel very happy when he personally told me that the reviews of the people who visit the restaurant help him to make their restaurant an even better establishment when serving their customers.
For me, adding new places on google maps is such an exciting activity. I’m always on the lookout for new places in my city to add onto google maps. By doing this, I can help thousands and thousands of people who rely on google maps to find out about places in Colombo. Not only that, I am also able to help the business owners by routing more customers into their businesses and helping their businesses grow and contribute towards the development of my local community. And the most amazing part about this is that I get to make a whole bunch of new friends along the way too!!
