Who loves Alpaca!

This week I share with you something you may not have had the pleasure of seeing before. My friend showed me how her Alpaca clothing line is made. She took me to a Quechua settlement near the faraway Peruvian town of Parobamba! Now let’s give you an idea of how far it is…

It’s about 3 1/2 hours away from the Peruvian town of Cusco. The roads are quite curvy so make sure and be prepared!!!

Now you’d need to get over your fear of heights because this town is about 15,000 ft above sea level!!! Yes, it’s situated just beneath the clouds and can often be enveloped in fog.

On this journey you would see lots of alpaca and lots of llamas!!! You can tell the difference by the shape of their mouths!

The Quechua folk raise and tend to the alpaca and use their fur for their garments.

They spin the fur to create threads and use natural dyes to introduce color. They then hand knit their clothing into some of the designs you may be familiar with today!!!

If you get lucky enough to be invited into one of their homes, you may be treated to their favorite dish, potatoes and guinea pig!!!
