Ok, first of all, I’m not sure if I’m on the right section of this website (probably I’m not). This is my first time posting on Local Guides Connect.
Anyway, I use Google Maps every single day (literally, because I need it for my work) and I have reported some mistakes like: no speed camera on a specific road, added new road and reported another road which simply doesn’t exist (even on Google Earth doesn’t exist, but Google Maps still shows a road!).
My last 2 edits (no road and new road), 1 was not approved and another one is still pending, after 3 weeks! And that no speed camera bugs me every time I cross that road.
I wondered who is behind this approval stuff and how does it work? Maybe I can invite that person and show him/her the road which doesn’t exit but Google Maps still shows and also that Toll camera which someone has probably reported it as a speed camera (just for fun) and Google Maps has taken him serious while peole like me who wants Google Maps to improve and reports the same issue 10 times that IT’S NOT a speed camera, but Google doesn’t care?!
I can simply ingore whatever the problem is with Google Maps, but because I use it everyday and I benefit so much from it, I can’t let this great app be with nonsense mistakes like those mentioned above.
Im in your position many times, in my edits there is a place which I have added it on 27th Dec 2019 and this thing didnt get approved till now, actually there are two places which I have added newly and didnt get approved till now. you may think this is about adding a new place so this works differently but I also have an issue about changing or editing the wrong information, for one place which I have edited the wrong info I got really mad as it was taking a long time to get approved like days even month but finally got approved after a month or more I think but why it is taking this long..... is Mr. approvals internet connection weak? … just kidding, I am eager to know the answer
You may or may not get any specific answer to your query.
However, my experience says, suggesting an edit on-site along with vindication through photos, screenshots etc. manifests the highest acceptance rate.
Hi, @Isar47 Welcome to Local Guides Connect and thanks for reaching out. First of all, I’d like to say that I’m sorry to hear that your edits are not getting approved, and I’m sincerely hope that it doesn’t discourage you from contributing to Google Maps. You posted your question in the right place, and your question was posted in the right section.
Regarding your question, I’d like to let you know that 'every edition on Google Maps is “reviewed by either local operators, an automated system, or both to ensure the information is accurate and follows our guidelines.” It is explained in this article: Why is my edit status “Pending” or “Not Applied”? Sometimes, for example, a fellow local guide must confirm a pending approval edit through the “Check facts” section, and it may take a while.
@C_T shared with you valuable tips to get more chances to get your editions approved. By my own experience, I’d say that when I started using these and other tips, my edits started getting approval faster. It happens because Google algorithms take into consideration a lot of information to verify information, like Geolocalization, the Local Guide historical, information added (as much information you provide, your chance to get your edit approved increase).
Despite sometimes, I failed to get an edit approved, I move on because there are a lot of things to be mapped.
@Isar47 I think that other Local Guides can approve your changes. There is a special section: Check information from other users - you can find it very easy in the special section on Google Maos - there are an orange pluses:
But it depends on your content, because sometimes when you want to check hours and you add a photo with current opening hours, Google algorithm can check it for you, so it can be faster verification.
