Which one is more important for photos to get featured for a location, image resolution or quality?

Hello Local Guides,

I was wondering if the seer resolution of an image helps it get featured or the quality matter more than resolution?
For example, Will an image with 64 MP resolution (9248 * 6936 px) from Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro have better chance to be featured for a location and as a result get more views or image from Google Pixel 6 Pro with 12 MP (4290 x 2800) resolution will fair better under same lighting condition?

I am trying to understand how to trick Google Maps AI to select the images that I upload to feature for the locations and get more view.

Thanks!

Regards,
Sanjana

The resolution is not the deciding factor, @SimpleSimmi .

In fact the resolution is reduced.

Instead:

Make photos of the front and entrance so they help Maps users find the places.

Make sure the brightness, contrast and colors are high, so the image looks attractive when shown on small screens.

Don’t have people with recognizable faces in your shots.

Make sure the place name (name board) is clearly visible and big in your shots.

But you need also to include a bit of the surroundings which is essential for people who did not visit the place before.

Cheers

Hello @SimpleSimmi

It’s a good thing you are thinking about contributing good photos to the maps. One word that bests answers your question is Quality !!! If the photo is Quality, the lighting will be correct, the resolution will be fine and then it will in turn be featured. Don’t bother tricking the AI,just contribute the right quality and the AI has no choice than to feature your photo. The post might interest you What-photos-should-I-share-on-Google-Maps .

Hi @SimpleSimmi

“Welcome to Connect! If this is your first visit, you’ve come to the right place. This post will serve as a guide for everything you need to know about contributing content and engaging with the Local Guides community on Connect” . This is the first of the information that you will find in “Your guide to Connect” , the introductory Guide of the community. In there you will find all the necessary information to know how to better contribute in here

Regarding your question, I can say that the factors for a photo to be featured can vary for type of places. In any case quality is always a priority, together with subject and framing. But in any case, even a good photo may not be featured, because an algorithm can choose another one, and the business owner can “suggest” the algorithm to choose a photo uploaded by the owner itself.

As you don’t have any photo posted in Maps, it is difficult to give a better advice based on your contributions

Personally I like it when we talk about photo views @SimpleSimmi . It’s not about Local Guide points because, as we all know, we don’t get points for views. However, when we consider that every single view of our photos about a place, a meal or whatever, is helpful to someone, in many ways, views give a good indication on how helpful our photos really are!

So to your question, you will find lots of great information about photos and photo views on Connect and more specifically on your topic, you might like to read this very recent post by @Mikeinthefalls and this one by @TerryPG . For empirical data about the types of photos that get lots of views then this post might be of interest to you. Hi @SimpleSimmi and a hearty welcome to local guides connect, you have already gotten some great advice here from @MortenCopenhagen @ErmesT @SholaIB and @AdamGT , your first task maybe to view and research the links they have provided.

I’ll give you 4 of my top things to help;

  1. Have a clear photo of the business name in the top centre of the photo.

  2. No human recognizable human photos of people’s faces.

  3. Clear concise photos, no blurriness or sun spots.

  4. Do not overload the amount of photos per business, keep it simple and add one or a few, we have guides here that post 10 -20 or even 50 + photos of a business for points…DONT DO THIS… Business hate it, it spams up their photos and reviews section and it’s one of the easier ways of getting you reported.

And again welcome to Local Guides Connect.
