I have a question about map location. When the place is large area, for example shopping mall or state park. Which best map location to point in google map? It should be near entrance or center of the place?
Very good and relevant question, @gizmoz .
The official guidelines says that the pin should be at the center of the building. This is very true for big buildings with several entrances.
But quite a few of us realized that positioning the pin as close to the entrance as possible is more helpful to Maps users. This is particularly relevant when stores have only one entrance are smaller and in not very big buildings. If more businesses in one smaller building then such pin positions are really helpful.
Huge malls etc should use the Google Indoor Maps as explained here
Only property owners and their authorized representatives can upload floor plans as mentioned here.
Indoor Maps are only available in the areas listed here.
Google has a hidden feature which allows extra and separate pin at the entrance. But this is not something LGs can access except when navigating. This is when you see the navigation ends at a spot different from where the main pin is. Very rarely when you suggest a pin moved you will be asked if you are trying to mark/move the entrance.
Since such entrance pins are almost impossible to edit for LGs we need to seek help on this in the Maps support forum if you really need such a change.
I hope this long answer is somewhat helpful.
Cheers

@MortenCopenhagen Thank you for your clearly and informative answer. One more question, where I can get the official guideline?
Hi @gizmoz
See this reply https://www.localguidesconnect.com/t5/Mapping-Your-World/Where-to-put-the-mark-of-a-location-center-of-building-or/m-p/572192#M18557
I was unable to find the wording in writing from Google, which leads me to have some doubts the statements from one volunteer. Maybe others knows better.
But I have no doubts that it is more helpful to place pins at the entrance rather than the center of most buildings since this will save Maps users from approaching places from directions with no entrance.
Cheers
