Where to go in picturesque Malta?

Just a couple of weeks ago, before the coronavirus peaked, I traveled to Malta!

Malta is a small archipelago, located just south of Sicily and north of Libya.

It is a popular destination with with its warm climate and historical and architectural monuments. The bus network is one of Europe’s finest, and for just 21€ you can buy a week pass which will get you anywhere.

I have made a list on Google Maps, which you can use to easily guide yourself around all of these amazing places: Malta’s must-visit!

Let me guide you around Malta’s most beautiful spots using my own pictures!

This was the most impressive thing to do in Malta for sure, a boat trip to the Grotto caves.

For just 8 euros you will have a 25-minute boat ride to the caves, awesome experience!

Expect a long waiting line in high season, better come early.

The views from up here on the Blue Grotto are phenomenal.

It is a 10 minute walk down to the entrance of the boat ride to the caves.

This is probably Malta’s most touristic spot and is always busy, but it is so worth it.

The cathedral is unbelievably beautiful. Entrance is 10€ which seems a lot but you get a nice audio guide, available in many languages, explaining every single detail.

Cannot miss this spot!

St. John’s Co-Cathedral, Valletta

Right next to the big bus stop of Valletta, you can find Triton fountain, a beautiful sculpture. Come and see it during the day for beautiful sunshine reflection but definitely in the evening as well, since it is beautifully lighted!

Valletta

It is not a typical beach as you might know it as there is no sand, just concrete all over.

But the spot is not so known and really beautiful!

Simply the best view over the three cities.

There is a national war museum as well, with cannons lined up, making this place even more special!

Sliema Ferry, Valletta

Ramla bay, Gozo

I got to know about this place by talking to a local who recommended it.

It is a lovely small village in a bay with gorgeous views!

Take a drink or an ice cream, sit and enjoy the bay.

Cospicua

Brutal shot of me! (I am actually not that brutal at all  )

This whole experience at Malta was incredible, and in just 5 days, almost the whole island can be explored if you plan it correctly.

Special thanks to 2 amazing ladies, @Stella2 & @user_not_found , for providing me amazing tips of Malta. They for sure were a HUGE help!

Stay safe,

Stephen

You officially put Malta on my list of places to visit @Stphn and I hope I get to see it soon.

I had no idea Malta was so full of beautiful spots and that crystal clear blue water looks amazing!

Would you recommend staying in Cospicua like you did, or would you say Sliema is an interesting place too?

Great to hear, @MortenSI , it is an absolute gem!

Well, where you stay is really depending on your preferences. Here is an overview of the cities and what to expect:

  • Valletta: Capital so expect lots of tourists here. Valletta is also significantly more expensive than any other city in Malta
  • Three cities: Same typical Maltese style as Valletta but not as busy. Lovely restaurants and bars in the neighborhood. Good connection from airport and to the rest of the island.
  • Sliema: I did not really like Sliema itself, high buildings, shopping center, not typical Maltese style. Only the ferry from Valletta to Sliema is interesting.
  • St. Julian: If you are a party animal, this is your place. If you are not, you’ll have to deal with lots of drunk British and Russians.
  • St. Paul’s Bay: Perhaps also interesting, lots of things to do. Many restaurants & bars, but downside is that it is pretty far from Valletta.

Thank you so much for the tips @Stphn , I will take that into account!

St. Julian surely doesn’t sound like the place for me so that narrows it down a bit.
