When shepherds fool Google Maps into thinking there is a road

In Greece we have A LOT of dirt tracks. And on those dirt tracks A LOT of sheep herders or whatever that obviously go very fast with their offroad vehicles or ATV while having data on. This leads Google Maps to

  1. Think there are roads where even an extreme 4X4 can struggle to pass
  2. Suggest as “faster” or “shorter” roads which are not roads.

How can we press something WHILE NAVIGATING to say “maps you got this very very wrong, no normal car can drive this road”?

Hi @AlexanderChalkidis

I’m not sure this is possible during active navigation.

But you sure can provide detailed feedback on a particular step in a navigation after your trip. Here are some help on how to do this:

I suggest you provide feedback about the incorrect navigation step using a desktop computer.

This link will explain how to do so.

Cue up directions so the faulty step will show up.

Then select Send feedback which is found at the bottom of the map (not the left panel).

Then click on the flag next to the faulty navigation step.

Then select Problem type. Here you can add some notes.

Use the notes to explain in apparent detail what the problem is. Please specify the exact GPS coordinates where relevant. Also, include deep links to Google Streetview if applicable. The more clear details, the better.

It can take 2-3 weeks before changes show on the map. Google will not notify you about the result. Just check the map once a week or so.

Secondly you could also use the road editor and suggest a road to be private if that is the case, or remove the road. But in my experience this it unlikely to get approved as the main focus is currently to get more roads added on Maps.

I hope this helps

Hi @AlexanderChalkidis !
I think the best place to ask this question is in the Google Maps Help community.
In my experience what you can do is edit the road that is not really a road and require the detetion. You can do it from the help menu in Google Maps.

That is way too generic. it simply has a “feedback” option.
Also it is way too hard to find the wrong directions, it should just have a history of directions given somewhere maybe

So I go to my timeline and find the trip and still it is too complicated like that. It should be under “report a problem”, just snap a picture of the “road” for people to see what it is like and add it.

I don’t want to delete the road. If you are on a mountain bike or a motorbike you are probably ok on it.

Yes, it is complicated and timeconsuming if you want to provide proper feedback. I’m afraid you will need to do so if you want to enable Google to use your feedback. I have spend several hours figuring out how exactly to provide such detailed feedback.

Hi @AlexanderChalkidis !
I understand your frustration, but I think that is the only way we have, as users, to change the roads that has been added by mistake.

Having the road in your screen, you can click in your photo at the top right corner, then “Help and Comments” and after that “Edit the map” and “Add or edit a road”.

Thank you both, there are simply not actionable ways to do something. Not just complicated but doesn’t even have the categories you need via the feedback option.
