When in Dubai Gorge on Shinwari & Afghani Cuisine At Wakha

Meat Lovers need to get a taste of the delectable ‘Shinwari’ cuisine at Wakha restaurant in Dubai. The Shinwari cuisine is primarily from the North Western Frontier Province in Pakistan. The distinctive feature of this cuisine is that meat is charcoal grilled or cooked with no spices but salt and is cooked in lamb’s own fat, making it uniquely delicious. The Lamb portions are hung and aged to perfection. One can view this through a glass display in the restaurant kitchen. One of the Signature dishes in the Shinwari cuisine is Dumpukht and that needs to be tried. We had the Shinwari Lamb and the meat was melt in the mouth. Cooked just right with the perfect amount of spices, it was an explosion of flavors on the palate. Highly recommended for all carnivore foodies I say!!

Start the meal with lassi and the signature Afghani hummus paired with ‘Rotis’. The Hummus here is creamier than the Arabic and Mediterranean varieties. The bread is also made with a special Millet flour. We also had Lamb Chops that are truly sinful. However the star of our meal was the ‘Aaloo Parantha’. Yes you heard that right. It’s the best one we’ve had ever. Better than ‘mom ke haath ka parantha’ Cooked in tandoori, this is one thing you have to have there.

While we had our stomachs full with such delicious food, the ‘Kahwa’ or tea served as the perfect palate cleanser.

While we were there we noticed a lot of tables ordering the Platter that comes with tikkas and pulaos. If you go with your gang then that’s one thing you should definitely include in your order.

Your Dubai trip will be incomplete without sampling the food here.

Tip: They’ve two branches in all and the newly opened one has a more fine dining ambience complete with Sheesha and the ‘Majlis’ seating. Also please pre order on phone at least 30 to 40 minutes prior to visiting so that you don’t waste time waiting there. The food gets longer than usual to prepare.

This looks absolutely delicious @PriyankaRajwar , and exactly the type of place I would want to visit when eating out in Dubai. I bet it’s a lot better than all the high end restaurants.

I will note this place for sure, because I’m planning to see Dubai for 4-5 days, and this is a meal I will have to try.

What’s a typical afghan dessert like?
