I used to share photos to google maps occasionally and under certain circumstances. You see, most of the time i am out exploring, I’m usually with friends and don’t even think about sharing my experience on google maps. It was usually in-between moments when I would pull out my phone and see a notification about sharing my experience on google maps.
“Yeah, sure”
Most reviews would just amount to how many stars I would give a business and a short comment of why I gave my comment.
But then I saw this photo:
I was scrolling through my past reviews and saw something I didn’t think was possible.
This photo has 2,062,943 views at the time of this post.
What was about this photo that made itself an outlier to my other ones? I realized that photos really mattered.
More specifically, exterior photos of business matter.
I remembered what prompted me to take this photo. At the time I just got out of my car and took a look at the Movie Theater, it had stopped raining for some time, but the ground was still wet. There was something about this moment that I wanted to capture, the feeling of anticipation before joining a group of friends for a night out.
Other people probably go through a similar experience before entering a movie theater.
I did some light editing with the Snapseed app before posting on my usual social media sites and decided to add this photo to google maps.
We don’t have to treat photos of businesses as a matter of data entry for Google. We should look beyond the fact that exterior photos help people locate a place of business because a photo can speak about so much more. Photos can be fun, and add so much more than what you write in your review.
