Salaam, My name is Abdul Wasay Mahmood and I’m a surgeon by profession and a standup comedian by passion. I love to travel and meet new people. But the very first time when I left my country Pakistan and landed in the United States in, it was a different story. I had no personal contact and didn’t know much about this new place. I didn’t know where to go and where to eat and most importantly how to go. At this stage of my life, I found google maps and learned more about it. and that was it. My all problems were solved. Now, I had a great companion with me during my whole 6-month trip, THE google map. And thanks to google maps, I got to know about the Local guide program, which truly changed my perspective about travel and cultural diversity in the world.
Before this, I had never been a part of something so global before. Through Google local guide program, I learned so much about the culture and diversity of the United States. Local Guides have introduced me to their customs, favorite treats, and passions.
When I returned to Pakistan after this memorable trip, I finally decided that this is the time to payback. I started adding more and more facts and figures about my home town, Karachi. So, whenever somebody comes here for the first time, they can use google maps as efficiently as possible. That’s how I think this world should work, by helping each other, in times of need.
Ultimately, this program celebrates our differences while also uniting us by what we have in common: our love for exploring and trying new things!
