I try to answer questions on Google Maps often as I think many are helpful.
However, I am constantly asked if there is wheelchair access and/or wheelchair parking. I am 100% behind having that info on maps to help people with access needs.
But where I am confused is that I keep getting asked over and over for the same places. Even if I’ve answered already. But more, all places open to the public in the U.S. have to be ADA compliant.
I get asked this for major retailers, malls, strip malls, and shopping centers. There is no way they don’t have accessible entrances and parking.
I understand that there are smaller businesses in older buildings that are grandfathered in and they may not have appropriate parking or entrances.
But Google keeps asking me about places like Publix which is the largest grocery store chain in Florida. All Publix must have wheelchair accessible parking and entrances. Same for parks and playgrounds. They have to have those.
So, is there a way for Google to tune this somehow? Eliminate the obvious places and ask me about the independent bookstore or restaurant in an old house.
