What's the most interesting thing you've done as a Local Guide?

I enjoy traveling and exploring different cultures but above all, I LOVE food!

Food connects me to people, culture and literally has helped make so many friends because it’s such a great conversation starter. I always wanted to go somewhere in the world where I could have access to the best food in the world of different varieties and countries and where better than Manhattan, New York?

As a wife and mother of three I knew going to Manhattan wasn’t going to be cheap if we all went so I spoke to my husband and we figured out a way I could still explore the great foods of Manhattan which is my passion and he could then explore his love for boxing in Houston.

I quickly realized that best time to visit Manhattan was right around the second week of January as air fare prices are rather low ( I was able to score a round trip from Florida to New York for $89 ) and hotel rates are the cheapest of the year. Not mention that many attractions reduce their prices in an effort to bring more visitors. (YAY)

I arrived in New York and it was freezing and it kept getting colder by the day, at least that’s how I felt. I spent an entire week in Manhattan, two blocks away from Time Square and surrounded by all kinds of cuisines and restaurants you can possibly imagine and although the cold didn’t make it easy to explore the city that never sleeps, it was totally worth every minute of it.

From eating real authentic Italian food at Maria Pia, wonderful Brazilian food at Ipanema Restaurant and even Moroccan cuisine at La Shuk, Manhattan did not disappoint me at all. I also had to try, of course, a New York slice and I was recommended by a friend to head to Artichoke Basille’s Pizza and so far it has been the best pizza I have ever had in my entire life.

What’s really interesting is that for an entire week I just tried out food and attractions and recorded and took pictures of the entire process and although New York has tourists from all over the world, people still found fascinating at how I took pictures of the establishments, of their specials, the menus, the drinks, the food and everything that I thought that can help readers get a best overview of the business.

It was certainly the most interesting thing I have ever done not only as a local guide but certainly as a human being! Thank you Google, for giving us this platform where we can share our experiences with the world and in return inspire others to do the same.
