It’s the year again that hundreds of thousands of contributors around the world get so excited for a chance to be flown for a sponsored trip in the US. That includes me. I also submitted last year but was not chosen. I am level 7. I was not so sad because though I was contributing organically in my own way via Google maps the resorts, hotels, and restaurants I have been THERE’S ONE MISSING which is sharing articles, guides or photos for the past year in the Local Guides Connect which they added as requirement after the most basic specifications.
I feel like what if the organizers would just open this to the ones who are very active there? Imagine for the hundreds of thousands who will contribute, they will resort to checking first those who are very active. Right?
I have a blog already hosted on Google that’s why I cannot share so much via Local Guides Connect. Imagine two sites for one content? What’s the deal guys, for us? I still will give it a try though and wish I get in. Reason is I want to know how to use Google local guides more than posting photos or videos. My interests is to document more plantbased restaurants, feature more farms, and sustainability ideas. My score has remained to level 7 because I don’t just snap and take random stuff for the sake of it. What’s my chance to get chosen?
I am active and (fortunately) I have been invited to attend Connect Live.
BTW, last year I have met at Connect Live a lot of Local Guide that, like you, reached Local Guides Connect (this community) only when they received the email to apply.
As you can read on the FAQ of the official Connect Live 2020 application site “High-quality, well-rounded, and consistent contributions on Google Maps over the past 12 months” are very important
That does not matter, if you met the requirements and your application is in good standing, you can be selected. I had the same situation in 2018, I was selected even though I never knew about Connect, I only got here for the application as @ErmesT mentioned, so you stand a good chance, you just have to do the correct things required on your application.
