Valencia is a city by the Mediterranean coast in Spain. It’s the third biggest city in Spain and now is a trending destination for Meetings and Congresses in Europe. That was my “excuse”, an annual congress. I stayed rather far from the City Center, just in front of the Palacio de Congresos (the Congress’ venue). I had time to walk around and stayed a couple of days, so here’s my recommendation for a short stay in the city:
Playa del Ayuntamiento (the City Hall square). All the historic center is near this square and is possible to go by foot.:
Plaza de Toros
Mercado Central (the market, open until 3 pm, Mondays to Saturdays)
Basilica and Catedral of Valencia
If you visit the city in March, then you can see the Fallas, an event similar to the Carnival. During the Fallas period, every day at 2 pm takes place the Mascleta, a pyrotechnic show where the important thing is to make noise. Lots of noise. It takes place every day from the 1st to the 19th of March in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento. It’s really an experience, don’t miss it if you are there!
If you plan on shopping, then Colon Street and its surroundings are where you can find all the brands, from H&M, Mango and Bershka, to Louis Vitton, Disney Store and the like. Remember, it’s closed on Sundays. Also, you can’t leave without visiting El Corte Ingles, a department store with 6 floors where you can buy literally everything.
If you are searching for cheaper options of clothing, then you have Primark right behind the Plaza de Toros and Mango Outlet (near the Ayuntamiento, in the adjacent streets).
Food: everything is delicious!! You MUST try the Paella, as it’s the local dish, and also try some tapas, preferably with a good sangria (Orio restaurant is really good!). And of course, Agua de Valencia, the alcoholic cocktail that you have to taste before leaving the city.
I didn’t visit the City of Sciences and Arts, but I heard it’s a great place and worth a visit… maybe next time
I’m leaving you some pictures, hope you enjoy your stay in Valencia! Adios!!
