I have always been a person with zero orientation skills; I could get lost even in areas I travel practically every day into. That’s why Google Maps has been a godsend to me. There is no way I could have been confident enough to leave my hometown for the purpose of work/study without the assurance that I would never get lost - all thanks to Google Maps. So, when I joined the Local Guides program, I saw it as a chance to give back to the community I was so indebted to. A community which literally helps me find my way. For me, it is a chance to assist other “topographically disoriented” people like me. But it’s not just that. It is also about the thrill of seeing a contribution you make reflected on a global platform, about the inclination it gives one to visit new places, about the look of amusement and curiosity people give when you tell them you are a Google Local Guide… above all, it’s just plain fun!
