Hi. My name is Simi Blau, I am 21 and live in London.
I downloaded the google maps app at the start of my 8 month visit to Israel, for help with directions. I quickly realised that it offered that and so much more. From reviews to photos, and best of all the Local Guides program, it has truly enriched my experience in Israel and back at home.
I started posting photos and found it to be fun and exciting. I did not realise the impact that they would have or that I would become an experienced local guide. For me, it is not about the amount of views that I get on a photo but rather how they help and inspire others.
This is a photo I took at the Israel Museum.
This photo symbolises to me the beauty, simplicity and creativity of Jerusalem. One can see the Knesset (the Israeli parliament) in the far right , behind the trees. The white structure you see is called the Shrine of the Book. Within it contains the Dead-Sea Scrolls. It reached over 1 million views on Google Maps which was unexpected to say the least. I am happy that it can be seen and appreciated by so many people. If not for Google Maps I would not have had the opportunity to reach so many.
This is a fountain I added to Google maps after a visit to Tel Aviv.
Allenby Street Fountain
I was struck by her beauty, the soothing sounds of the water pouring over her brim and the site of the dozens of birds surrounding her. It certainly brought a smile to my face. Needless to say I was thrilled when my edit was approved, as this gives others the opportunity to find it too.
I am so honoured to have this opportunity to travel to California and meet everyone. Being part of this wonderful community gives me immense pride and I hope to continue to make positive, impactful contributions.
