What the Local Guides program means to me: Magic.

Just a spoon full of sugar …

Whoever thought that Mary Poppins had a magic bag, sure didn’t check out my back pocket yet. In there, right next to the lost packaging of a bubble gum, you can find my phone. And in there, fits the entire world.

Actually, that’s exactly what I love so much about the local guide program. Being able to share more than the regular bubble gum, but sharing the entire world with each other.

The most magical place on earth doesn’t necessarily have to be Disney

I’ve always loved traveling. As a Marketing & Sales professional I travel around for my job, but I also love hiking around on holidays.

It’s the perfect way to have a taste of people’s cultures, a taste of their kindness, and of course a taste of their food. Combine those three, and you have absolute magic.

And if there’s one thing I’d have to choose to share in live, I’d definitely opt for ‘absolute magic’.

The local guides program enabled me to do this. Since I started sharing these wonderful places, people and dishes 3 years ago, I’ve been able to reach thousands of people with my perspective on magic.

Since I started discovering more and more places of the world and my country, my country became my village. I’ve never felt more at home than now I’ve discovered so many of its hidden gems.

I would walk 500 5 miles

The program made me discover the most beautiful places, even just around the corner. It motivated me to hike around more, making me healthier, but also enabling me to discover even more magical places.

And I love how it can have an ecological impact as well. I really try showing the world that you don’t need to go to the other side of the world to discover new and inspiring places.

For example last year I was going for a run in my home town. Since you don’t discover new places when having a fixed route, I was just jogging at random. And there, in between the randomness, I found a wonderful small park, that was situated less than 5 km away from my home. ‘Buurtpark Cadol’ is now one of my favorite place to sit down and read some books. It’s lovely to see how others are starting to discover it as well since I shared the pictures of it on google maps.

“It’s magical right?!”

When I was at this park a few months ago someone told me that she visited the place because she ‘had to see the it’. She had discovered it on google and she proudly showed me my own google picture saying “It’s magical right?!”. Then it struck me. This is what the local guide program means to me. Enabling others to experience more magic as well.
