What the Local Guides program means to me: it is the modern notebook of the "Grand Tour" but shared

Hi Local Guides,

My name is Luca, I am from Taranto and I’m a level 8 local guide.

I discovered Local Guides 4 years ago. After a difficult working period of my life I was finally able to organize a new trip with my family, Barcelona to Spain! This is where I started using Local Guides!

During this trip I started reading reviews of the places I wanted to visit. Then I started using Local Guides as a notebook. I liked taking pictures of places. I started sharing these photos to geolocate them on Maps! Then I started to evaluate the places. First only with the stars and then I started to insert some description. In a small way I was doing like the great European artists of a few centuries. They loved to do the Grand Tour and took notes on all the places they visited. But my notes are public.

Suddenly the first likes arrived. The number of views increased! My photos had exceeded one million views without me noticing! And I made them that I could be useful like all the other Local Guides! So I started to improve the descriptions, to modify the information of the places I knew. Now I like to create lists of places. I love this feature!

I am a teacher of Technology and Design. I love to explain the tools of Maps and the Local Guides program to my young students! What better example could I find to explain the power of information sharing and cooperative learning?

And it’s nice when some students say to me: “Hey Teacher! But this picture is yours! Have you been to this place? How did you find out?”

And I: “Of course boy! Learn to use Google Maps and read the information of the Local Guides. Remember, it is the information that takes you far!”

OK Local Guides, I hope to be yours for Connect Live 2020!

@Giuseppe75 Thanks for the reply! I visited Parma as a boy and it remained in my heart. When this lockdown ends, maybe we’ll have a chance to meet us. See you soon!
