Its means UBUNTU (Ubuntu is a Nguni Bantu term meaning “humanity.” It is often translated as “I am because we are,” or “humanity towards others,”).
As an African living in Africa, South Africa to be more specific Ubuntu is part of how I was raised. From a young age I was taught to respect and help everyone. For me that is what Local guide program represents to me.
It represents a large community of people coming together to help each other. Whether it’s helping them select the best restaurant or it’s simply answering a question they might have about a place I have visited before. I am helping them and they are helping others it’s a continuous circle. It’s rewarding knowing we are building a community of people who are willing to help each other experience the world.
When I first joined the program I didn’t really understand what it was. I had seen reviews from other local guides it didn’t really click until I started reviewing more frequently I saw the value I was adding. We as the local guide community we are promoting businesses and experiences. Thanks to Google local guide program everyone has their own personal tour guides and friends taking every exciting step of their journey with them. How Awesome is that!!!
From what we Google is able collect information from the reviews we write, the pictures and videos we post etc. All these tools come together to make the user of google maps experience easier and more Real, because it’s real people giving real experience about places and activities. The program is “awesome” & the local guides that are part genuine and kind. We need all the love and kindness we can find.
